forever yung

Just Breathe.

My fellow Berkeleyans, congrats on making it through another butt-kicking semester! Get out of Doe/Moffit/Davis Hall/etc. and enjoy your four weeks of freedom! Life is good.

Have I ever mentioned how much I love living in the Bay Area?

Happy Holla-days!

Here’s a behind the scenes look at the 2nd annual tree lighting ceremony at the Yung household! Due to tough economic times,Raphael the Tree Guardian has been laid off this year.:( But here’s the good news: now that Thanksgiving is over,it is now socially acceptable to blast Celine Dion’s Christmas album all day erryday. My bad,Channing apartments. Good luck with finals!

Kids Say the Darndest Things

To protect the identity of the quoted individual, I have replaced the first letter of his/her name with a symbol:

@mber: OMG, do i look like a guy?

@mber: I look like a guy with a mullet

@mber: I look like a guy with a white tank top on

@mber: omg, I look so gross…

Such silliness.

New logo in the works!

Fun fact: All the dark rectangles have a 4x6 aspect ratio :)

A little teaser to my upcoming post about reverse mounting my nifty fifty for some cheap macro fun.

Pinch me, I’m in Photography Heaven

When I visited my Uncle “Mosquito” in Hong Kong, he let me play with his small collection of toys:

From left to right:

  • Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G (mine)
  • Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8
  • Nikon 50mm f/1.8D
  • Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8G (I’d have huge biceps if I owned this lens)
  • Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8G

That’ll all set you back just a little over $5,000, but then you’d have to buy an actual camera body to use them. Nobody said a lifetime of memories didn’t come at a cost…

P.S. Finally purchased my own nifty fifty (1.8G)…can’t wait to put it to good use! Maybe after I get over this jet lag.

My favorite view in the world! What you’re looking at is only half of Hong Kong’s skyline. I soaked in all this beauty for 2.5 hours, but I had great company. Special thanks to my cousin Kenneth for giving me a few pointers and lending me his tripod and 17-55mm lens! I tried going for a smoother look this time around so I used an interval of 2s instead of 10s. Unfortunately with this shorter interval, I didn’t get to see a preview of each shot after it was taken, so I didn’t notice how noisy my pictures started getting as it got darker…and nothing ruins a low-light shot like noise (sigh). Nonetheless, it was a good lesson learned and not a bad way to spend one of my last nights in Hong Kong! I hope you enjoy :)

PS: Check out Kenneth’s photography blog here: http://photoblog.hk. It’s currently one of the top photo blogs in Hong Kong! Warning: If your Chinese is as “good” as mine, you may need to use your browser’s translator.

[Flash 10 is required to watch video]

Feeling a bit ambitious, so I decided to make a time lapse video of the sunrise outside my apartment in Hong Kong!

Edit: I meant to write this earlier, but I had to head out right after the video was done uploading. I gave myself the goal of doing a time lapse video of the Hong Kong skyline during sunset before I left here, so this video was actually a test run for me to try out my camera’s interval shooting mode (which i just learned about yesterday…good stuff) and to test the settings I planned to use for the real thing. I’m pretty satisfied with how this turned out…there’s a lot of flickering when the sun actually comes out which was expected because there’s such a drastic change in light, and my camera probably got confused. Other than that, not too shabby for my first attempt! Heading out to Tsim Tsa Tsui later tonight for attempt No. 2. Stay tuned …

新朋友

Meet Jasper! He remembered that I drew Superman and Doraemon for him the last time I ate dinner with his family. In other words, we cool. I even taught him a secret handshake today. Let’s see if he remembers it the next time I’m back in Hong Kong…

P.S. As you can deduce from my more recent posts, I am in the process of forming my own army of future heartbreakers. Look out, world. Hide yo kids, hide yo wife.
